Snowballing Guide: The Sex Practice of Sperm Swapping Explained

4 Min. Lesezeit

Snowballing is a sexual practice in which semen is exchanged from one mouth to another between partners. The semen is kept in one partner’s mouth after oral sex and transferred to another person by French kissing. The saliva mixes with the semen so that with each exchange between partners, the amount of semen increases, much like a growing snowball. Instead of rolling a snowball on the ground, a growing mixture of semen and saliva is passed. This practice is also known as “cum swapping” or “cumswapping”.

“Cum swapping” is a more general term, however, and can apply to people who share a sperm-saliva mixture that did not originally come from either of them. For example, if you exchange the semen-saliva mixture with your partner who supplied the semen, this is called snowballing. If you swap the mixture with another person (e.g. in a threesome where the squirter is not involved in the exchange), this is called cum swapping.

A slightly different snowball fight

The New Partridge Dictionary of American Slang states that the term snowballing originated in the USA and dates back to 1972. It was initially used mainly by gay men. This hot game is also thought to have started in the porn industry. Where cum is often squirted onto the performer’s face. Occasionally the semen is then collected in the mouth and given to another person involved. In the book “Handbook of Psychology and Sexual Orientation“, researchers have found that semen has symbolic meaning for some men and thus represents symbolic power. Particularly the successful completion of sexual behaviour as well as sexual power, virility, strength and virility.

Snowballing is not unique to humans; certain animals exhibit a similar behaviour. In Carmen Cusack’s book “Animals, Deviance, and Sex“, she describes how male Congo tetras have to blow sperm into the mouth of a female that is carrying her eggs in her mouth in order to reproduce. Cusack explains, however, that this is not the same as snowballing, the human preference that is considered “deviant” despite its role in fertilisation and conception.

Preparation:

Before you talk about snowballing, it is recommended that all parties involved should be tested. And cleared of any sexually transmitted infections. Fun is good until it isn’t. When playing with body fluids such as semen and saliva, safety is paramount.

As for consent, make sure your partner is open to the idea. Some people have no problem providing sperm, but definitely don’t want to receive it themselves.

If you are looking for an easier way to broach the subject in a relaxed environment, the game “Truth or Dare – No Consequences” can be helpful. This allows participants to open up the conversation about sexual exploration in a playful and courageous way without embarrassing anyone. Those participating in the game agree that anything shared during the game will not be used against each other later. And that no topics are off-limits when it comes to communicating one’s desires and wants.

Once you have all talked to each other about consent and are ready to actually try snowballing, you want to make sure that you both drink plenty of water and exclude fish, alcohol and smoking from your diet before you start playing. As an added bonus, you can also increase your fruit consumption. The idea is to make the actual taste of semen as pleasurable as possible. Hydration, a healthy diet, and avoiding smoking and alcohol will all help.

When snowballing:

For a successful snowballing, it is best to start with a blowjob. After ejaculation, keep the semen in your mouth and then kiss your partner. Or a third person if you’re into threesomes. And pass the semen into the other person’s mouth with your tongue.

To start cautiously and test the mood, you can begin with an open-mouth kiss after the blowjob and then slowly build up to exchanging the sperm. This way you can avoid going straight from zero to one hundred. Since snowballing involves a lot of saliva anyway, you can also practice dry, without sperm, if you want to be more careful in the beginning.

If everyone continues to join in, you can kiss and try to move the sperm back and forth in your mouths. See how big it can get and then decide whether to spit it out or swallow it whole. It’s up to you to decide what you like!

Because the saliva is digesting the ejaculate, the lump in your mouth is getting bigger and bigger, so you can’t continue the game indefinitely. At some point, one or more of you will have to swallow the sperm or spit it out.

Snowballing is certainly a rather unusual practice and definitely not for everyone. If you are into it, we wish you a lot of fun with your snowball fights! And remember, don’t aim for the eyes.

5 Tips for Snowballing

  1. Communication and agreement: Before you start snowballing, it is important to talk openly about your wishes, limits and expectations. Make sure that all parties involved agree and are comfortable with each other.
  2. Safer sex and hygiene: Snowballing involves the exchange of body fluids, so it is important to ensure that all people involved are free from sexually transmitted infections. Regular testing is recommended. Also make sure you have good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth or using mouthwash beforehand.
  3. Taste and smell: To make snowballing enjoyable, you can influence the taste of the semen. A balanced diet with plenty of water and fresh fruit can improve the taste. Avoid strong-smelling foods such as garlic or onions.
  4. Relax and take it slow: Start slowly and explore your comfort zones together. You can start with gentle touching, open mouth kissing or giving a blow job before moving on to the actual snowballing. Take your time and communicate with each other to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves.
  5. Care and Safety: After snowballing, it is important to look after the health and safety of everyone involved. Rinse your hands or clean your teeth to remove any dirt. Also watch out for possible hypersensitivities or irritations and discuss them with a doctor if necessary.
